Measure your wrist

We're here to help you get that flawless fit from home, and we've got plenty of knowledge up our sleeves. Before we dive in, let's talk about watch bands and straps and what makes each one different, so you may want to take a mental note.

Metal Bracelets

When it comes to metal bracelets, size matters. Unlike leather bands it’s best to wear a metal bracelet a little looser, so you’ll want to make sure that the bracelet and watch face are about one centimetre bigger than your wrist, as your wrist will get larger throughout the day. A metal band that is the same size as a leather band will always look more prominent and heavier, so if you've got a delicate wrist, opt for a lighter metal bracelet.

Leather and Rubber Straps

If comfort and flexibility reign supreme for you, then a leather or rubber strap is the way to go. You'll want a snug fit with leather or rubber so your watch isn't upside down on your wrist. Unlike a metal bracelet, bands and straps aren't as flexible so giving your wrist a little extra room by adding two centimetres or three and a quarter inches to your wrist size is the golden rule. Dry completely before putting on your watch.

Nato Straps

Nato straps, aka G10 straps, are all about practicality, thanks to their amazing tough and flexible nylon design; trust us, they've got it all. Add two and a half centimetres to your wrist size for a Nato strap. With two layers between your watch and wrist, Nato straps have a unique wrapping technique, so you'll need to leave extra room for the spring bars (those tiny, spring-loaded pins that keep your strap attached to the watch case). They need a bit of space to fit snugly into the lug holes on your watch.

A step-by-step guide

Found the perfect watch? Avoid any potential wrist sizing faux-pas by following these five easy tips.

1.

Measuring tape

Grab a tailor's measuring tape (or a ribbon and a ruler)

2.

Palms up

Open your hand with your palm facing up.

3.

Measure from the centre

Put the measuring tape's endpoint at the centre of your wrist's width to make the measurement easier to read.

4.

Wrap around

Wrap the tailor's measuring tape or ribbon firmly around the smallest part of your wrist and record the measurement (in centimetres or inches) - if using a ribbon, align it with a ruler to find the measurement.

5.

Hey presto!

And that's all there is to it; you now have your wrist size.

Finding the case size for you

We're sure you've been eyeing up some of our exquisite timepieces; well, we've put together a handy case sizing guide to help you find the one that'll sit like a charm on your newly-measured wrist.

A Sizeable Decision - Case Diameter

Watch case diameter tends to come down to personal preference, regardless of gender. But if you're feeling a little unsure, let us offer some words of wisdom. For men, watch sizes vary from a modest 38mm to a confident 46mm, with the sweet spot being 42mm. Ladies, on the other hand, have a daintier range of 26 millimetres to 36 millimetres.

Decoding Watch Case Thickness

The front side of the watch is the star of the show, so the watch case thickness is something not to overlook. If you're all about understated elegance, you'll want to go for a sleek seven mm thickness. But if you're in the mood to turn heads, be bold and go with a nine mm thickness.

Watch Lugs 101

Something easy to miss, also known as the 'horns', they connect the case to the strap and bracelet. Lugs aren’t always included in the diameter measurements, so just be mindful to leave some breathing space for these when measuring your wrist.

Loupe Insiders Tips & Tricks

Loupe Insiders Tips & Tricks

We caught up with our resident Loupe watch aficionado, Nick, and boy, did he spill the tea on all things watch fittings.

  1. Rise & Measure: Did you know that your wrist actually gets bigger as the day goes on? That’s right, your body holds water throughout the day, so when choosing a watch, keep this in mind.
  2. Closing In: Opening your hand can subtly shift your wrist size - wild, right? That's another reason to measure your wrist later in the day, when it's relaxed and at its largest size.
  3. Comfort Check: Whether you prefer your watch above the wrist bone, on it, or below, find your sweet spot and choose a watch size that complements it perfectly. It's all about what feels right to you.
